The Void Calls Us Home

Rebecca never thought she was suicidal. However, that didn’t stop her from jerking her car off the side of the road last night.

Everybody thinks she swerved to avoid hitting a deer, but she knows the truth. She did it because a giant flaming being called out to her from beyond the void and beckoned to her to join it in the darkness.

Was it a manifestation of her unconscious desire to die? Could the being really exist? Did it have anything to do with her sister’s suicide just a year before?

When Rebecca starts seeing the creature every time she closes her eyes, she has no choice but to find out the truth before it drives her mad.

The Void Calls Us Home is an exploration of what it means to have depression.

If you like H.P. Lovecraft, psychological horror, coming of age stories, or deep explorations of grief, loss, death, and junk, then make sure to pick up The Void Calls Us Home today.

The Marked Ones

Magic destroyed the world once. Now, magic users are the enemy. To be marked with magic is to lead a cursed life.

Rosie is completely average. There is absolutely nothing extraordinary about her in any way.

For most people, that would be a blessing, but Rosie wants nothing more than to have a spark of magic, even if people say that all mages are evil.

She wasn’t born with magic, though. She’s sure of it. After all, she is 17, and magic always presents when you are 13.

Always.

So, when she’s suddenly able to wield magic, Rosie is initially confused, then thrilled…until the soldiers come for her, and she realizes everything she’s about to lose.

No more school. No more friends. No more freedom.

Her life is over…at least the life she knew.

No. She won’t allow herself to be locked in a cage. She must escape.

There is one place that is truly safe for people like her.

The lost city of Toledo – a haven for witches and warlocks since before the war, and the only place Rosie can be free.

But it’s only a legend. Nobody has seen the city in decades.

Can she find the lost city before the army descends upon her?

If you love Harry Potter, magic, coming of age stories, and non-stop action, then pick up The Marked Ones today.

Invasion

Aliens are invading.

The Earth is doomed.

The end of the world is a bad time to fall in love.

Joshy is a normal kid from an average town suffering through a mediocre road trip with his family. He's positive this vacation will be just as bland and uninteresting as every one that came before it.

Then he meets Debra.

She's everything he's ever wanted in a girl. She's smart, funny, and radiant. They love all the same things, right down to the same obscure comic books. There's a definite spark between them.

Literally.

The moment they finally kiss, a bolt of electricity from Debra's mouth knocks Joshy unconscious.

He wakes up to a shocking truth.

Debra is an alien.

Worse yet, another race called the Globorians are about to invade Earth and enslave all of humanity.

Now, Joshy and Debra must race against time to stop the Globorian plot and save the planet before it's too late.

If you love young romance, alien invasions, coming of age stories, and non-stop action, then grab Invasion today.

Worst Thing in the Universe

Albert Ross is the most miserable, pathetic, and terrible thing in the entire universe. He is reviled by many, most of all God.

Albert Ross is an anomaly. Karma doesn't think anything he does is wrong. It's a glitch in the universe that God can't fix. Every trillion or so births in the universe, there is a karmic anomaly.

That's not to say karma doesn't have its retribution. For every horrible act Albert Ross commits, karma punishes Vikram Suresh. Poor, sweet Vikram.

He doesn't know why his life is so horrible. He doesn't know why the universe is unkind.

It's unkind because of Albert Ross.

That is the crux of the karmic anomaly. Karma thinks everything that Albert Ross does is actually carried out by Vikram Suresh.

What a horrible lot in life.

That's why Vikram kills himself. It usually doesn't matter when a poor, miserable schlub dies, but this death has instant ramifications.

With his death, Karma can instantly see Albert Ross again and realizes its mistake. Like a rubber band, all the horrible things that Albert's ever done slingshot back to him at once.

And God watches with glee as karma has its revenge.

Worst Thing in the Universe is narrated by God, as he pontificates on the horrible fate of Vikram Suresh, expounds on the nature of the universe, and explores the flaws in the whole system.

You can pick up any book by itself for $25, or the complete set for $100 and read the complete collection.

Or pick up all four ebooks for $20.I tried to make a bunch of different tiers so that there was something for everybody.

Are you ready to find your next favorite book?

Issue #10 is done!
almost 4 years ago – Wed, Jun 10, 2020 at 12:34:09 AM

Hi,

All the interior art for issue #10 is done now, and we have some killer ideas for the cover for it. We're on pace to finish issue #12 by the end of the year, and since we've already got everything for issues 5-8, we'll be launching that Kickstarter in September. You should have received all your rewards already. If you haven't please go to https://ichabod-jones-monster-hunter-5-volume-1-re-release.backerkit.com. There are only three of you who haven't gotten rewards so far.

Before we get to the Ichabod Kickstarter, I am happy to announce I've launched a NEW campaign for FOUR new novels, which I've dubbed my summer slate.

Kickstarter link

This time I'm back with four NEW novels. Earlier this year I launched my Godsverse Chronicles universe, but these were the books I wrote to help me develop the style for the Godsverse.

These books are really important to me. I wrote them between other projects to explore new methods of writing, and new themes. They helped turn me into the writer I am today.

Worst Thing in the Universe is the book that really codified who I was as a writer. It was my father's favorite book I ever wrote, and for years it was my guiding star as I build the Godsverse and beyond. It's like Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy if Chuck Palahniuk wrote it.

The Void Calls Us Home is my most personal book since Sorry for Existing. It is a deep mediation on living with depression, couched in a YA Lovecraftian horror/fantasy novel. If you loved the depth of Sorry for Existing and have been more of that from me, then I highly recommend this book. It really helped me flush what it meant to live inside my head out onto the page, and finishing it helped massively with my own mental health. If you like Lovecraft of dark horror, you'll love this one.

The Marked Ones was written at a time when I was trying to soften my books a bit. I had been told that my work was too violent and profanity laced, and so I wanted very badly to keep the edge but lose some of the things that turned people off about my work, and if you like Harry Potter mixed with dystopian, then you're going to flip for this book. If you're a fan of Harry Potter or dystopian, then you'll dig this one.

Finally, Invasion was my palette cleanser book. I wanted to write something fun and light-headed, which was against my better nature. When the rest of my work beats you down a bit, Invasion is a light summer read, written in third person, and filled with all the weirdness of a narrator from Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, or Douglas Adams.

Together these books helped me explore what it meant to be a writer, and more importantly, what it meant to be a Russell Nohelty.

PLUS, if you back today you'll get three other awesome ebooks, including Andy Peloquin's awesome Trial of Stone, S.E. Anderson's incredible Starstruck, and Lily Luchesi's stunning The Coven Princess.

That's just so many awesome books.

I can't wait to see you behind the backer wall again.

Cthulhu is Hard to Spell: The Terrible Twos ends in just a couple days
about 4 years ago – Wed, Mar 25, 2020 at 03:17:56 AM

Hi!

This is a quick note to let you know that my newest campaign, for the Cthulhu is Hard to Spell: The Terrible Twos anthology is going to end on Thursday, so this is about your last chance to get in on the campaign.

Cthulhu is Hard to Spell: The Terrible Twos contains thirty-eight all-ages appropriate stories from 73 creators about the gods and monsters of the Lovecraft universe. Yes, there is horror, but there are also silly stories, funny stories, sci-fi stories, whimsical stories, and slice of life stories as well. The focus is on the gods and monsters themselves, with plenty of psychological and cosmic horror thrown into the mix, too.

Kickstarter link

Inside its pages, you will find stories about Hastur conquering the world through the power of the internet, humanity slowly going mad at the sight of Azathoth, gods trying to win cultists to their side, humanity making friends and enemies of the gods, monsters coming back from the deep, psychological tales of horror and intrigue, and much more.

Featuring stories by Paul Jenkins (Spider-man), Ray-Anthony Height (Wakanda Forever), Tony Donley (Myths and Legends), Christian Gossett (The Red Star), plus dozens of artists who have worked for My Little Pony, Invader Zim, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Image, Vertigo, DC, and many more of your indie favorites.

Hope to see you behind the backer wall.

Until next campaign!

Cthulhu is Hard to Spell: The Terrible Twos is now live on Kickstarter
about 4 years ago – Fri, Mar 06, 2020 at 01:01:40 AM

Hi!

I wanted to drop you a quick line and let you know that my new anthology project, Cthulhu is Hard to Spell: The Terrible Twos is now live on Kickstarter.

Kickstarter link

This is my most epic anthology yet, and as a fan of psychological mindscrew, I thought you might enjoy it, too. Lovecraft's work oozed with mindfuckery, and this book has plenty of those types of stories.

However, there are also funny stories, silly stories, sad stories, and other stories for you to enjoy which take Lovecraft's work in a slightly different direction.

There are 38 stories from over 70 creators in this book, including Paul Jenkins (Spider-Man), Ray-Anthony Height (Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur), Christian Gossett (The Red Star) and many more.

And if we're still in the early days of the campaign, which means there are tons of bonus digital comics and prints for you to get if you pledge now.

We're already at $12,700, and if we can get to $15,000 today then everybody is going to get a digital copy of The Children's Vampire Hunting Brigade by David Lucarelli.

So, there's a lot on the line if you pledge today.

I love this book so much, and I can't believe I edited something so amazing. It's the absolute perfect compliment to Ichabod Jones: Monster Hunter.

I hope you'll check it out.
